RE: Pie Crust

Kathy, Since you saw the KitchenAid lady making it (maybe KitchenAid Kelly? Dunno, don't watch QVC), you might want to check out the KA forums. The link below is a search result for pie crust. The last post on the page has KA Kelly's recipe from 2006. It is the recipe with egg and vinegar. Some folks swear do by that one. KA piecrust search result KA Kelly's recipe Sometimes the search result links don't work so here's the main forum: Forums You'll find really nice, friendly, helpful folks over there. And a few you'll recognise from this forum. If the lady on TV was Kelly, she still stops by occsionally. Bob

RE: Pasta n' More?

Are we talking about two different products? I thought the OP was asking about a microwave cooker that cooks the pasta hoizontally in the microwave. I've never used one but I think I read some good reviews somewhere in this forum of that or a similar product. Maybe they'll chime in if they're still posting here. Then there is the tall clear tube thingy. It works- more or less. You need to use high quality dried pasta only and 2 changes of boiling water- about 8 minutes each. But it does make good s'ketti. Clean up is easier- maybe because the pasta wasn't boiled in the pot. Don't know- but total water use is significantly less. Sometimes that is a major consideration. These things are all over second hand stores, garage sales, and flea markets for $5 or less. Someday I'll find a well fitting piston doodad to make mine into a monster french press! :B Oh, like 79powerwagon, I make my pasta in my pasta pot. I use the pot as my "dishpan". Works for me. Bob

RE: Kebmo where are you?

Those look good. I like plum sauce but just never thought to make it at home. Thanks. Hmmm... Anybody remember the oven baked cauliflower recipe in the Good Sams magazine last year? Just bought a nice head for 50 cents on Sunday. I usually just dip it in sweet and sour sauce but... :B Giant Eagle should have plum jam... Bob

RE: Avast 4 home (free edition)

Ooops, forgot, scanning time. My AVG, "pay" edition, takes about a hour and a quarter to scan my laptop with a 37.2 (40?) GB hard drive that's about half full. That is while I'm wandering about the internet. Bob

RE: Need advice regarding furnace in older, small TT

Mark, "Shorting" (by-passing or jumping sound better :)) the thermostat should come first becsuse it's so easy, quick, and free. Also thermostat problems are pretty common. Next make sure you have good voltage to the furnace and that the polarity is correct. After that the blower motor (that's why the polarity has to be correct) and sail switch could be the problem. I hate to suggest it but it might be possible to bypass the sail switch for a few seconds only to see if that's the problem. The furnace usually has to be removed to get to the sail switch but if you can reach the spade terminals... I'm sure several will chime in to say how dangerous that is but, you could always could have bought a bigger truck too :B :B After checking those maybe a clogged burner jet or the gas regulator itself. A problem with trouble shooting furnaces is that, for safety, they're like old style Christmas lights- if one bulb (or switch) goes bad the whole thing doesn't work. For instance the limit (or "high limit") switch that prevents overheating, could also be bad. It might be a good idea to pull the furnace anyway and check its general condition. Make sure the heat exchanger isn't rusted out. Bob

RE: Avast 4 home (free edition)

What happens if you try this search engine: http://www.dogpile.com/ Make sure it's your computer and not something yahoo is doing. Did you install their toolbar? Bravenet forums used to pull the same kind of redirect crap. Recently I had a problem with popups and NetZero. Aftr trying things for a week, I discovered NetZero was opening its own version of IExp. It looked just like mine but you couldn't turn off the pop ups. My fix was as simple as closing their version and opening the IE 6.0 version that came with my computer. So check to make sure you're using the program you think you're using. If those don't work, maybe a system restore?? Usually quick and relatively painless. Go back further than you think you need to go. Ummm... now just why do you want to be dipped in buttermilk...??? Do you roll around in flour or breadcrumbs afterwards..??? Never mind, I don't really want to know... ;) :B Bob

RE: Trusted Sites Warning

Wow. I sorta kinda read it. Reminded me a bit of Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky ;) I'd continue to click "no". Remember, shun the frumious Bandersnatch! :B Seriously. I haven't a clue as to what it meant, but if the site "worked" when you clicked "no", whatever it was wasn't needed. The link might have been saying it's a meaningless glitch or... maybe it is the jaws that bite, the claws that catch! ;) Bob

RE: Squirrel, the other white meat.

if you can't hunt them where you are. >snip< squirrel page and no, I'm not associated in any way to the site listed. I was about to compliment you on a well done spoof and then just wondered where the link went... LOL! Thanks. I don't think I'd like to see the dehydrated "bone in" product! :E Squirrel is very, very tasty. Use your favorite breading and fry. Young ones can be cooked on a stick over a fire but tend to be dry. Older squirrels can go in your crockpot with a few of your favorite vegetables. Cover with stock and cook on low all day. Serve with biscuits or spaetzle. Bob

RE: Immersion Blender --- Good Enough?

The better ones, like the KitchenAid, work quite well. Those with attachment get great reviews. Mine is a cheapo made by Kenwood (who??;) and it works prety well. Rasins and dates... maybe not too well. Folks who have the IB out on the counter or hanging on the wall tend to find them very, very useful. Those who keep them in a drawer somwhere don't use them much. KitchenAid's forums have a IB "room" about 2/3's down the page. Not a lot of traffic yet, but the moderators can help explain the differences. KitchenAid Conversations Bob

RE: Cover for skillet

I have a couple of "universal" aluminum lids. One goes up to about 10" and the other around 15". They're on the lines of a pizza pan a handle but have slight concentric stampings to help keep condensed steam running inside the pan. Bob

RE: Request a receipt for sent e-mail messages

...I wonder how easy it is for spamers to know when their e-mail has been opened and read if it takes all this by the receiver. I sure won't ever authorize a return receipt to someone I don't know and may even click the box that says to not send return receipt... Wagonmaster2 Good idea. I very seldom open messags from folks I don't know. I recommend doing that. I understand that spammers can discover you've opened their trash by putting pictures in the email body. That is far more common than abusing return receits. By the way, new online friends normally go through "PM" messges or "re-sent" messages from other message boards. A few folks I correspond with use the return receipts on all emails. It doesn't bother me a bit. A couple keep their computer online most of the time and sometimes email again while I'm repling to the first. Never automaticly send receipts- or accept "permanent" cookies! LOL! As I said earlier, I seldom use them. About the only time is when arranging hunting trips and the like. Differing work scedules make email more convienent than phone calls (and you can send maps!). You want to make sure Steve Shootemup got the message to meet at the correct greasy spoon. Bob

RE: Request a receipt for sent e-mail messages

Wagonmaster2, I seldom use them but as I recall it comes as an email with something in the header about your email being read. I do allow the recipt to be sent unless I have a specific reason not to let the person know I've opened it. But then, if I was worried about that I'd just as likely delete the email unread and block the sender. I tend to give folks the benefit of the doubt if they request a receipt or... even ask a question on a message board :). I'm willing to assume there is a good reason for it. I do not assume they're just being nosey and refuse- with regard to the return receipt. Nor do I assume they're just lazy or stupid and tell them to "google" (of "do a find" LOL!) this or that when they ask a question. Good question though, the very first time I heard of it was in an email from someone that worked for the Dept. of Justice. A little disconcerting the first time. LOL! Bob
